The Loi Krathong Festival kicked off in Chiang Mai tonight, with a procession featuring traditional costumes of historical characters, music, fireworks, and the release of many 100s of paper lanterns into the sky.
The lanterns work much like a hot-air balloon, and once released, they drift up into the darkness, carried away on the wind.
