UK Drum&Bass legend Goldie rocked the Cage club in Saigon last night in what was definitely the best night out in Saigon all year – for me at least. My love for Goldie’s rockin beats goes back a long way. I still remember the night in 1994 when a radio show on Australia’s Triple J featured some of his new tunes, including what was to become a timeless classic “Inner City Life”. The new sound, the breakbeats overlaid on rumbling ‘jungle’ bass melodies was unlike anything I’d heard before. And that went for a lot of people from a lot of walks of life. So it quickly caught on around the world.
Anyway, after years of watching Drum&Bass grow and evolve in so many ways, it was fun to hear the original instigator go back to his roots and play some classics. The club was packed with a lot of D&B fans, plus perhaps a lot of newcomers too. So much fun to see all those different people enjoying D&B in their own ways…
